sorry it has been so long

It has been a very eventful month and I kept meaning to update my blog. Here is what has happened so far...

ADRIAN AND I
We postponed our wedding to 31 August 2008 as we have run into a financial problem. It appears that we may not be able to live in our apartment much longer since both of us are unemployed. There is some brighter news, which I shall reveal later. The nicest thing Adrian has done so far is suprise me.

I came home from a terrible day to discover that he had the blankets laid out on the couch and my pillow so that I could rest in my favorite place. He brought over my usual Neocitran and then served me dinner. He only left for a brief moment to get the laundry from downstairs which he had put down earlier. The sweetest surprise came near the end of the night when he told me to open a silver pouch that had a silver chain in it. The chain was for a laboradite necklace he had bought while in Newfoundland last year. It looks very pretty. Yes, it was very unexpected but pleasant.

COLLEGE
I went to Seneca for an entrance exam for the Broadcasting-Television program at Newham and passed. I now have to go to a second round of testing at Seneca@York on Feb 8. I also need to submit my transcripts for the Legal Clerk program as they allegedly never recieved it. I also have a round of testing and interview for the Book and Magazine Publishing at Centennial on Feb 2. I am still trying to get my writing samples completed.

TALK SHOWS
The greatest thing about being unemployed is seeing life in an entirely new perspective and doing things you would never have done before. One of the things is local talk shows. Since I do not have money for entertainment, I must seek free entertainment.

The first talk show I went to was with Krista. It was a delightful adventure as we were the only two audience members. The third and fourth person were relatives of the guests. It was an intriguing time at the Gill Deacon show as we learned about how to buy the right bra, what to say in job interviews and watch Jamie Kennedy have to repeat his segment on organic wine. He had made the mistake of admitting he likes commerical wine better than organic and spent too much time discussing the technical superiorities of organic wine. Then it was time for Cranium and I was so proud that they chose Krista to go on tv to spin that huge wheel. She had to do a pictogram of "cold turkey", which is not so easy. I was very proud that she had overcome her shyness and was able to enjoy taking a great leap. Congrats!!!!

Then Krista and I met up ontime to see the Royal Canadian Air Farce. Adrian and I had a bit of a mixup and he ended up waiting a 1.5 hours at Finch station, but luckily arrived on time. There was a huge audience with people arriving from Mexico, UK, U.S and Argentina. You could tell the people who come reguarly as they knew all the words to the warmup songs and 'intermission' jokes and songs. The Stage Manager had such a dry sense of humour and spoke in a soft montone voice. He would often tell us to "stand by to laugh" or "this is very funny. I laughed earlier today." The audience would giggle. I was concerned that one sketch may offend our visitor from Mexico as it was a man and a woman hyping up the stereotypes of Mexican people and then speaking quite negatively about the country. She didn't seem to care as she had her picture taken with the cast once it was done and the cast signed autographs as well. I had a very enjoyable time at the farce and would like to return one day. I taped our show on our new DVD recorder on Friday.

JOB HUNTING
I have been more active in my job search lately, but realize I will have to step it up more a couple of notches. I have had one interview for a receptionist postion and one note telling me to come back. I have sent out my resumes electronically through company websites or placement agencies. I know that I must do more.

I was able to set up Adrian with my former tutoring boss and he now goes to Thornhill once a week to do math and science tutuoring. He was also able to get an interview with Discount car rental doing incoming calls at a call centre. It pays $30, 000 and he is torn whether to continue attending classes during the day and working at night or simply dropping out of school.

I, on the other hand, also began tutoring with Michael, but I had to quit. He had told me he would find students near the subway line as I would have to travel by public transit. The students are in Thornhill so it requires more than one transit fare, which is not so bad. It is the 40-80 minuite walk through residental streets to get to the first student in -18 to -25 temperture (that is not including the wind chill factor that blows directly into my face). It is quite literally the distance between Yonge and Bathurst. I tried my best keeping up with the three to four commute everyday along with the walks, but after my third consecutive day I began crying because the frozen parts of my face and body hurt so much and I quit.

NEW CLOTHES
I bought a new bra from La Senza for the job interview. I really had no idea where my bras have gone and this one was quite nice. I also bought a new shirt from R&W, because most jobs I apply for are administrative and government between the $30-50K range and I thought I really should look the part. I am happy with my purchases.

CHRISTMAS TREE AND OTHER THINGS
Adrian and I still have our christmas tree up as we have been so preoccupied with doing our work, cleaning and exercise that we never got around to taking it down.

He also downloaded As You Like It for me.

He got a hair cut from Natural Solutions which suits him quite well and I still remember Lola the hairdresser's dog that ran around the salon. It was so cute.

I also won a Beatles book from a contest that illustrates all the lyrics and has quotes from the band members. Adrian loves it and we ate at the Keg with a gift card when we picked it up.

We also have voice mail now.
